Private School Fees in Qatar: How to Calculate the Full Annual Cost Before Enrolling

When comparing private school fees in Qatar, families may start with the advertised tuition fee. But that figure alone does not answer the most important question: How much will we actually pay during the school year? Books, uniforms, and transport may add to the cost, along with registration and placement assessment fees when a child joins a school.

In this guide, we explain how to calculate the cost step by step, then apply the method to published Grade 1 fees from three actual schools for the 2025/2026 academic year. These examples show how the calculation works. Before deciding to enroll, ask each school for its approved fee schedule for the year your child will attend.

What is the difference between tuition fees and the annual cost?

Tuition fees are the amount charged for teaching a particular grade. The annual cost to your family may include other items, depending on the school, grade, and services you need.

Cost category Examples What to check
Annual tuition Fees for the relevant grade Confirm the grade and academic year
Additional annual fees Books and learning materials Add the items you will pay for each year
Fees paid when joining Registration and placement assessment Check whether they are paid only once
Services based on your needs Transport and uniforms Add what your family will actually use or buy
Annual seat reservation An advance payment deducted from tuition in the examples below Count it as part of tuition, not on top of it

Ask each school for a fee schedule showing the amount of each charge, when it is due, whether it is deducted from another amount, and whether it is refundable.

How do you calculate the cost of the first year?

Use this formula to estimate the cost of the year your child joins the school:

First-year cost = tuition + books and other annual fees + registration and placement assessment fees + the services your family chooses.

The three fee schedules used in this article show that the seat reservation is paid annually and deducted from tuition. Do not add it to the total a second time.

For example, if tuition is QAR 18,000 and you pay QAR 500 to reserve a seat, total tuition remains QAR 18,000. The reservation payment is an advance payment toward that amount, leaving QAR 17,500 in tuition to pay according to the school’s payment schedule.

In subsequent years, you pay the annual seat reservation again, and it is deducted from that year’s tuition. Keep registration and placement assessment fees separate from your calculations for later years if the school’s fee schedule confirms they are paid only once.

Three real examples of Grade 1 fees in Qatar

The figures below come from the approved fee schedules for the 2025/2026 academic year for three schools. We have used Grade 1 at each school so the comparison covers the same grade. All amounts are in Qatari riyals (QAR).

Item Summit Academy Beverly Hills International School Global Academy International – Al Thumama
Grade 1 tuition 10,706 18,000 16,506
Annual seat reservation, deducted from tuition 1,530 500 2,000
Books 1,500 2,000 2,326
One-time registration fee 1,020 1,000 1,163
One-time placement assessment fee 122 300 200
First-year cost excluding uniform and transport 13,348 21,300 20,195
Uniform, if purchased 360 1,000 872
First-year cost including uniform but excluding transport 13,708 22,300 21,067

How were the totals calculated? We added tuition, books, registration, and placement assessment fees. We did not add the seat reservation to tuition because it is deducted from it. We included the uniform only in the final row so you can use the total that applies to your family.

These are examples based on 2025/2026 fees, not published fees for 2026/2027. They also exclude transport and any other costs that may apply to your child.

Worked example: Grade 1 at Summit Academy

Suppose a child joins Grade 1, the family buys the uniform, and the child does not use the school bus. Based on the fee schedule, the calculation is:

QAR 10,706 tuition + QAR 1,500 books + QAR 1,020 registration + QAR 122 placement assessment + QAR 360 uniform = QAR 13,708.

The family also pays QAR 1,530 each year to reserve the seat, but this amount is deducted from the QAR 10,706 tuition fee. It is part of the tuition payment, leaving QAR 9,176 of tuition to pay.

When paying the seat reservation, ask the school how the deduction will appear in the remaining installments. Keep your receipt and the fee schedule.

How does transport affect the comparison?

Transport shows why the cost of the same school can differ from one family to another. In the 2025/2026 fee schedules used here:

  • Summit Academy: QAR 3,060 for one-way transport or QAR 4,500 for round-trip transport.
  • Beverly Hills International School: QAR 4,500 for transport.
  • Global Academy International – Al Thumama: QAR 3,488 for transport within the area specified in its fee schedule or QAR 4,651 outside that area.

Do not add bus fees if your family will not use the service. If you plan to use school transport, check whether the bus serves your area, the price of the service you need, the pick-up and drop-off points, and the length of the daily journey.

If you plan to drive your child yourself, consider the cost of fuel and the time a parent will spend on the journey, even though these costs do not appear on the school’s fee schedule.

Separate recurring costs from fees paid when joining

When budgeting for more than one year, do not reuse the first-year total for every year. Separate charges according to when they are paid:

  • Tuition and books: Calculate these for the relevant academic year and grade.
  • Seat reservation: According to all three fee schedules, this is paid every year but deducted from that year’s tuition.
  • Registration and placement assessment: These are listed as one-time fees in the fee schedules.
  • Transport: Include it in the years your family uses the service.
  • Uniform: Include it when you buy or replace it.

Adding tuition and books only for Grade 1 in the 2025/2026 fee schedules gives the following figures:

School Grade 1 tuition and books
Summit Academy QAR 12,206
Beverly Hills International School QAR 20,000
Global Academy International – Al Thumama QAR 18,832

This table shows how to separate recurring items from fees paid when joining. It is not a forecast of next year’s cost. Your child will usually move to another grade with potentially different tuition, and the cost of books and services may change. If the seat reservation continues to be calculated in the same way, it will remain an advance payment toward the new year’s tuition, not an additional charge on top of it.

Financial questions to ask before paying

Ask the school to answer these questions in writing:

  1. What are the fees for the specific grade in the academic year my child will attend?
  2. Which charges are mandatory in addition to tuition? Do they include books and materials?
  3. Which fees recur every year, and which are paid only once?
  4. How much is the annual seat reservation? Is the full amount deducted from tuition?
  5. How is the seat reservation payment reflected in the remaining installments?
  6. What does transport cost for our specific area? Is one-way transport available?
  7. What is the refund policy if enrollment is not completed or the student withdraws?
  8. When are installments due, and are there optional services with separate charges?

An up-to-date written fee schedule is more useful than relying on a quoted figure or a post from a previous year.

Is the school with the lowest fees the best choice?

Cost matters, but it is one part of a larger decision. Once you have identified schools within your budget, compare their curricula, locations, travel times, school environments, approaches to tracking your child’s progress, and the services your child needs.

Frequently asked questions about private school fees in Qatar

Is comparing tuition fees enough?

No. Add books and any other charges that apply to your child, then include transport and uniforms if you need them. Compare the same cost items across schools.

Is the seat reservation paid only once when a child joins the school?

In all three fee schedules used in this article, the seat reservation is annual. It is deducted from that year’s tuition, so you should not add it to the total a second time. Check the terms of any school you are considering, as payment and refund conditions may differ.

Why do fees vary between grades at the same school?

A school’s fee schedule may set different amounts for different grades or stages. Use the fee for the grade your child will actually enter, rather than a starting price shown in an advertisement.

Can I use 2025/2026 fees to decide whether to enroll in 2026/2027?

They can help you understand the cost categories and how to calculate the total, but they do not establish the fees for the new year. Request the approved 2026/2027 fee schedule before making a financial decision or paying any amount.

Plan your budget before making your choice

Put your shortlisted schools in one table and specify the grade and academic year. Then add tuition, books, fees paid when joining, and the services your family needs. Record the seat reservation among the required payments and their due dates, but do not add it a second time if it is deducted from tuition.

This gives you a clearer picture of how much you will pay during the year and when you will pay it. After ruling out options beyond your budget, you can focus on your child’s needs, daily journey, and the learning environment that suits them.
